LUBBOCK, Texas – The Newman baseball team totaled 11 runs and 18 hits, but couldn't stop the Lubbock Christian offense, falling 13-11 at LCU on Saturday (March &) in the final game of a three-game series. The Chaps swept the three game series, and the Jets dropped to 5-9 on the season and 0-3 in the Heartland Conference.
The Jets took an early 2-0 lead in the first inning.

LCU tied the score at 2-2 with two runs in the second. A double down the line plated the two runs.
Andrew Standish gave NU a 3-2 edge in the third inning on a single through the infield. Flax scored once again.
In the third and fourth inning, the Chaps totaled eight runs. Three runs in the third scored on a double to right field and then a double to left field for a 5-3 LCU edge.
Ben Wagner's sac fly in the fourth kept NU in the game at 5-4 as
Alex Lator tagged up to score.
After a single plated one LCU run for a 6-4 advantage, the Chaps added four runs on a grand slam homer to gain a 10-4 lead.
The Jets cut the deficit to one at 10-9 with runs in the fifth and seventh innings. Standish went deep in the fifth, hitting a three-run homer for a 10-7 score. Bugner and Evans scored on the long ball. With the bases loaded in the seventh, Lator walked for a 10-8 score. NU pulled to one as a fielding error allowed
Lucas Norton to score, unearned.
Two runs for the Chaps were added in the bottom of the seventh to gain a 12-9 lead. A single up the middle plated the two runs.
Norton doubled for NU in the eighth inning to bring home
Aaron Mack and the Jets trailed by only two at 12-10. LCU added one run on a NU error for a 13-10 score.
In the ninth, the Jets got one run on a single by Bugner for a 13-11 deficit. NU loaded up the bases with two outs, but Mack struck out swinging to end the game.
Mack finished at 4-for-6 in the game with one run scored. Standish went 2-for-5 with four RBI. Evans was 3-for-5 with 1 RBI and three runs scored. Bugner went 3-for-4 with two RBI and one run scored.
The Jets return home for four straight games. NU starts with Fort Hays State on Wednesday (March 11) at 3 p.m. at McCarthy Field.
