CLAREMORE, Okla. – The Newman baseball team used a five-run sixth inning to get a 9-8 victory over Rogers State in the series finale at the Diamond Sports Complex. With the win, the Jets won the series, 2-1 after splitting the doubleheader yesterday. NU moved to 21-22 overall and 11-13 in the Heartland Conference. The Jets still have a chance to make the Heartland Conference Tournament.
Trailing 5-3, the Jets plated five runs in the sixth inning to pull out to an 8-5 advantage.
Jarrod Flax started the spurt with a single to left field to score
Aaron Mack. NU tied the score at 5-5 on a
Tyler Evans single to bring home

Tyler Bugner got an RBI with a fielder's choice to bring in
Lucas Norton for the 6-5 NU edge, and
Andrew Standish put the Jets up 8-5 with a single to right field. Bugner and Flax both scored on the two-RBI single.
A double by Flax in the seventh inning increased the lead to 9-5.
Ben Wagner scored on the RBI double to right field.
RSU scored one run in each of the seventh, eighth and ninth innings, but came up short in the 9-8 game. Two homers and a single scored the three runs.
After the Hillcats plated one run in the first inning, NU knotted the score at 1-1 with a single by Norton to plate
Garett Thomas. RSU again added one run in the second inning, and the Jets responded with one run on a double by Thomas to right field to bring in Bugner for the 2-2 tie.
A two-run homer in the third inning put the Hillcats up 4-2, and they added one more run on a sac fly to build a 5-2 advantage after three innings.
In the fourth inning, NU cut the deficit to two, 5-3, as Mack scored on a passed ball.
Flax went 3-for-5 with two RBI and one run scored from the lead-off spot. Evans went 2-for-4 with one RBI, and Bugner was 2-for-4 with one RBI and two runs scored. Thomas went 2-for-5 with one RBI, and Mack finished 2-for-5 with one run scored. Jahnke went 2-for-2 with one run scored. NU totaled 15 hits. Eight Jets totaled hits.
Senior
Cody Fredericksen got the win, going 7 innings. He allowed three earned runs on 10 hits with four strikeouts. Fredericksen moved to 4-3 on the season.
Tanner Lee pitched the ninth to get the save, his first of the season.
RSU's Andrew Vanisi hit three home runs, totaling four RBI. He finished 3-for-5 from the plate.
The Jets return home for their final four games. NU plays William Jewell on Wednesday (April 29) at 3 p.m. Live stats and audio will be available for the contest.
