Offense Explodes For 16 Hits in 12-4 Win at NWOSU

ALVA, Okla. – The Newman baseball team got its offense going, totaling 16 hits and 12 runs in a dominating 12-4 win at Northwestern Oklahoma State on Tuesday (April 7). With the win, the Jets moved to 14-18 on the season.
 
NU scored runs in each of the first five innings, including seven runs in the fifth inning. In the first inning, the Jets went up 1-0 on an Andrew Standish RBI groundout. After one run from NWOSU in the bottom of the first, Jarrod Flax singled to centerfield to plate Aaron Mack for a 2-1 edge after two innings.
 
The Jets gained a 4-1 advantage after two runs in the third. Alex Lator tripled to score Standish, and a Mack single to left made it 4-1. A wild pitch in the fourth inning increased the lead to 5-1. Flax scored on the play.
 
NU poured on seven runs in the fifth to take a commanding 12-1 advantage. Lator doubled to left to score Garett Thomas for the first run of the inning. A double by Lucas Norton plated Lator for a 7-1 edge. Flax singled to left to bring in Norton, and Tyler Bugner singled as well to score Flax and an error allowed Daniel Jahnke to score as well. Standish got a single to left to plate Bugner, and Thomas hit a double to left field to bring home Standish for the 12-1 score.
 
A ground in the sixth inning allowed the Rangers to make it 12-2 in the sixth inning.
 
Tanner Lee started on the mound and pitched 4 solid innings. He allowed two hits and one run with two strikeouts. David Herrera, Corey Mondello, Ryan Skoubo, Ryan Jenkins and Joe Cannady all pitched 1 inning in relief.
 
Nine Jets finished with hits and six Jets had multiple hits. Norton went 3-for-4 with one RBI. Flax was 2-for-3 with two RBI and two runs scored. Standish finished 2-for-4 with two RBI. Lator went 2-for-5 with two RBI. Thomas was 2-for-5 with two doubles and one RBI. Mack went 2-for-6 with one RBI.  
 
NU travels to UA Fort Smith this weekend for an important Heartland Conference three-game series. The Jets and Lions start with a doubleheader on Friday (April 10) at 1 p.m. in Fort Smith, Ark.
