DENVER – The Newman men's soccer team played to a 1-1 draw with Metro State on Friday (Sept. 11). With the tie, the Jets moved to 1-1-1 on the season.
After a scoreless first half, the Roadrunners went up 1-10 in the 64th minute on a header off a corner kick from Josh Belfrage, his first goal of the season. Metro's Brock Labertew and Dustin Berg got the assists on the goal.
NU's
Luca Anelli evened the score at 1-1 late in the contest, hitting a shot from the top of the box in the 84th minute.
Pedro Augusto picked up the assist on the Anelli goal.
For the match, Metro State held a 23-15 edge in shots; however, NU got more shots on goal, holding a 10-6 edge.
Anelli finished with four shots, including two on goal.
Taylor Henry and
Gefte Blanc added two shots each, all on goal.
Calum Dillon started in goal, going the full 110 minutes. He made five saves and allowed the one goal. He moved to 1-1-1 on the season in goal.
