JOPLIN, Mo. – The Newman women's soccer team allowed a goal in double overtime to fall at Missouri Southern, 1-0, on Saturday (Sept. 12) at Hal Bodon Field. The Jets dropped to 1-2-1 on the season.
In the 107th minute, a shot from Carly Cecil of MSSU from 20-yards away went off an NU defender. The deflection from NU put the ball in the goal to lift the Lions to a 1-0 win by the golden goal.
It was a closely played game all day with MSSU holding a slight 13-10 edge in shots. The Lions totaled seven shots on goal to six from the Jets. The goalkeepers each made six saves.
The Jets held a huge edge in corner kicks at 6-2.
Paige Thompson had a match-high four shots with only one shot on goal.
Morgan Foster had two shots, both on goal.
Kelsi Langley started in goal, making six saves and allowing the tough luck goal.
NU goes to Washburn on Wednesday (Sept. 12) in Topeka, Kan. The game starts at 6 p.m.
