Foster Scores Two Goals to Lift Jets to 2-1 Win at WU

TOPEKA, Kan. – Morgan Foster scored two goals, including the game-winning goal late in the second half, to lead the Newman women's soccer team to a 2-1 victory at Washburn on Wednesday (Sept. 16) at Yager Stadium. The Jets moved to 2-2-1 on the season.
 
Foster tallied the game-winning goal in the 74th minute. The junior knocked in a free kick from 13 yards out to the top right. The goal was her team-high fifth of the season in only five games.
 
Foster, a junior from Chubbuck, Idaho, started the scoring with her first goal in the 30th minute. Madison Decker sent in a low cross to the top of the box to Foster, who knocked in the shot for the 1-0 NU advantage. The Jets held a 1-0 edge at the end of the first half.
 
NU dominated the first half of play, totaling six shots to only one shot from WU. Three of the six shots were on goal for the Jets. The one shot from the Ichabods was on goal.
 
Early in the second half WU tied the score at 1-1. Bailey Wobig scored in the 54th minute to make it 1-1. Paige Swanson got the assist on the goal.
 
In the second half, WU totaled eight shots to only three from NU. Six of the eight shots were on goal for the Ichabods. The Jets totaled only one shot on goal, the goal from Foster, in the second half.
 
For the game, the shots were tied at 9-9. WU finished with seven shots on goal to four from NU.
 
Kelsi Langley went all 90 minutes, totaling six saves and allowing the one goal. She moved to 2-2-1 on the season.
 
It's the second straight season the Jets have defeated the Ichabods by the 2-1 score. NU won, 2-1, over WU in Wichita on Sept. 17, 2014.
 
The Jets continue their four-game road trip this Saturday (Sept. 19) at Southwestern Oklahoma State at 3 p.m. in Weatherford, Okla. Live stats and video are available for the contest.
