WICHITA –
Paige Thompson needed less than 7 minutes to get a hat trick, leading the Newman women's soccer team to a 6-0 win over Dallas Christian College on Monday (Sept. 28). The Jets moved to 3-4-1 on the season with the win.
Thompson scored her first goal of the game on a penalty kick in the 74th minute. She added her second tally in the 77th minute on a shot from 30 yards that went to the top left corner. Thompson got the hat trick with a shot that went bottom right corner after a through ball from
Aliya Marshall, who picked up the assist. The three goals put NU up 6-0.
Senior
Bianca Torres put in the game-winning goal in the 21st minute. She headed in a corner kick from
Emma Stewart, who got the assist. The lead doubled to 2-0 with a goal 15 seconds later.
Madison Decker struck a shot that hit the top crossbar and went in from the top of the box. After the first half, NU held a 2-0 advantage.
Junior
Morgan Foster got in on the scoring with a penalty kick goal early in the second half in the 46th minute. It was her team-high sixth goal of the season.
NU finished with a 37-2 edge in shots, including 25 shots on goal. The Jets added seven corner kicks to zero from the Crusaders.
Kelsi Langley,
Kayleigh Renfro and
Ashley Sweetnam combined for the complete game shutout. Langley and Renfro each totaled one save.
DCC's Aliyah Revely went all 90 minutes in goal, totaling 19 saves.
The Jets have 10 days off before starting conference play on Oct. 8 against Dallas Baptist. The match starts at 7:30 p.m. at Wilkins Field. Live stats and video will be available.
