WICHITA – The Newman volleyball team added to its winning streak with a 3-1 victory over Bethel College on Monday (Sept. 28) at Fugate Gymnasium. The win moved the NU winning streak to 10-straight matches. For the season, the Jets improved to 12-4.
 
NU rolled to two easy wins in the first two sets. In the first, the Jets were victorious by a 25-11 score, and they followed it up with a 25-9 win in the second set.
 
The Jets hit .538 in the first set with 14 kills and zero errors. For the second, NU totaled nine kills and only two errors to hit .292. The Threshers struggled hitting in the first two sets. Bethel finished with a -.087 hitting percentage in set one and then hit -.043 in the set two.
 
After falling behind 2-0, Bethel responded with a 25-21 victory in the third set. The Threshers hit a match-best .091 with 11 kills on 44 attempts. NU made too many mistakes in the set with nine error and only 11 kills for a .036 hitting percentage.
 
NU put the match away with a 25-14 win in the fourth set. The Jets recovered to hit .314 with 12 kills and only one error in the final set. Bethel hit .050 with 10 kills and eight errors.
 
The Jets finished with a season-high 14 aces, including seven from senior middle hitter Ashley Gonzalez. However, NU also totaled a season-high 12 service errors.
 
For the match, NU tallied 46 kills and 12 errors on 140 attempts for a .243 hitting percentage. Bethel finished with 31 kills and 28 errors on 130 attempts for a .023 hitting percentage.
 
Gonzalez led the Jets with 12 kills and hit .333. She added match highs with seven aces and four blocks. Emily Harvey hit a match-best .667 with eight kills on only 12 attempts. Yemima Buana added seven kills and hit .267. She totaled two blocks. Alexus Litts tallied 32 kills, and Raygen Lee finished with 10 assists. Anna Burton totaled a team-high 17 digs.
 
The 10-match winning streak is the longest in NCAA Division II history for the Jets. They look to continue the streak with St. Mary's on Thursday (Oct. 1) at 7 p.m. inside Fugate Gymnasium. Live stats and video will be available.
