WICHITA – The Newman men's soccer team lost, 2-0, in its home opener on Sunday (Sept. 6) against Colorado State-Pueblo at Wilkins Field. The Thunderwolves scored two second half goals to pull away for the win. The Jets dropped to 1-1 on the season, and CSUP moved to 2-0.
On a hot and sunny day in Wichita with temperatures in the 90s, both teams couldn't get a goal in the first half. The Jets used six first-half substitutions to try and keep the team fresh. It was a physical period as both teams were given three yellow cards.
After the scoreless first half, CSUP's Sam Glawe scored on a shot from about 30 yards that went off the goalkeeper and in for the 1-0 advantage in the 54th minute. The Thunderwolves doubled the lead to 2-0 in the 67th minute on another long shot. Santiago Tinta hit a shot from 40 yards that went over the top of the NU goalkeeper.
In the first half, CSUP totaled seven shots to six from NU. The Jets held a 6-4 edge in shots in the second half and finished with a slight 12-11 edge in shots. Both teams tallied seven shots on goal.
Justyn Taylor had two shots with two on goal.

Dominic Nwagwu and
Jamie Barkway all had two shots as well.
Calum Dillon went the full 90 minutes in goal with five saves and the two goals allowed.
CSUP's Sam Haseltine got the shutout win with seven saves.
The Jets travel to Colorado next weekend for two contests. NU takes on Metro State on Friday (Sept. 11) at 8:30 p.m. in Denver. The Jets then play at Colorado-Colorado Springs on Sunday (Sept. 13) at 2:30 p.m. in Colorado Springs, Colo.
