OKLAHOMA CITY — Locked in another tight defensive game, the Newman women's soccer team picked up a point in the Heartland Conference standings with a 0-0 draw against Oklahoma Christian Saturday afternoon.
KEY SEQUENCE
Heading to overtime for the fifth time already this season, the Jets (3-4-4, 2-3-2, 8 pts Heartland) came out fast in the start of extra time against the Eagles (4-6-1, 2-4-1, 7 pts Heartland). The guests ripped off a pair of shots from Morgan Foster and Maria Rodriguez in the first minute, and Foster and Rosa Urista-Chico each put a shot on goal in the second session, but couldn't break the tie.

HOW IT HAPPENED
-Urista-Chico took it to the OC defense early, putting the first shot of the game on goal in the second minute, and chipping another wide in the 11th. Erin Mink put one on goal as well to get Eagle keeper Carina Schanz off her spot.
-The Jets peppered the Eagles late in the first half, putting up five shots in the final nine minutes, but they couldn't get one to the back of the net.
-OC put on most of the offensive pressure in the first 20 minutes after intermission, outshooting Newman 8-1 during that stretch.
-Newman once again put the pressure on to close the half, with Madison Decker and Vanessa Ortiz each forcing a save from Schanz, Urista-Chico and Cydney Padilla each adding another shot, and the Jets getting whistled offsides twice in the last four minutes.
-The Jets were the only team to get a shot in the first period of overtime, and outshot the hosts 6-2 overall in the 20 minutes of extra time.
NOTES
-Ashley Sweetnam and Kelsi Langley combined for the Jets' seventh shutout of the season. Langley stopped five shots, while Sweetnam added two saves. It was the fourth scoreless draw of the season for Newman.
-Newman held a narrow 21-20 lead in shots on the game, including 8-7 in shots on goal. The Jets had four corners to OC's two, and were call offsides six times in the contest.

The Jets continue a season-long five-game stretch away from home with a single game next week, heading to Rogers State Saturday.
