Jets Drop Double Overtime Match To Eagles

OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. – The Newman men's soccer team traveled south down I-35 to take on Oklahoma Christian for the second time in Heartland Conference play this season but dropped a close 3-2 match in double overtime this evening.
 
KEY SEQUENCE
 
The Jets (6-5-2, 4-3-2 Heartland) scored a goal in the 63rd minute to retake the lead but a late goal in the 77th minute by the Eagles (4-8-1, 2-6-1 Heartland) would tie things up at 2-2 and force overtime. After the first period of overtime things would still remain 2-2, however Oklahoma Christian would score right out of the gates in the second overtime period to win the match 3-2.

HOW IT HAPPENED
 
-Both the Jets and Eagles would fire off five shots apiece in the first 22 minutes of the match but Newman would take the game's first lead off of an Anelli shot.
 
-Oklahoma Christian would tie the match up at 1-1 in the 36th minute.
 
-Newman would launch another seven shots to close out with 12 shots for the first half of play compared to Oklahoma Christian's nine shots.
 
-Calum Dillon would had three saves in the first half of play.
 
-Newman would break through finally in the 62nd minute after bombarding Oklahoma Christian's goalkeeper to retake the lead at 2-1 off of a shot from Carlos Rubio Garcia.
 
-Oklahoma Christian would answer with a goal of its own in the 77th minute to tie things up at 2-2.
 
-The Jets attacked the net throughout the second half but couldn't get anymore to go in after the goal in the 62nd minute, having six of their 11 shots saved in the second half.
 
-Newman would outshoot the Eagles three to zero in the first overtime period but couldn't manage to reach the back of the net to claim victory on the road.
 
-The Eagles would get the golden goal in the 101st minute of the match to win 3-2 over the Jets.
 
NOTES
 
-This is back-to-back conference matches that the Jets have lost in overtime, coming against West Texas A&M last Saturday and Oklahoma Christian tonight.
 
-Newman outshot Oklahoma Christian 26-17 for the night.
