DALLAS, Texas – The Newman women's soccer team played its final road conference match of the regular season this afternoon against Dallas Baptist, which ended in a double overtime 0-0 draw.
KEY SEQUENCE
The Jets (4-5-5, 3-4-3 Heartland) had plenty of chances offensively against the Patriots (7-4-2, 7-2-1 Heartland), especially late in each of the four periods played this afternoon. Newman had a chance at the end of each period (45', 87', 97' and 109') but each attempt was denied by either the Dallas Baptist team or goalkeeper.
HOW IT HAPPENED
-
Ashley Sweetnam would record her only save of the match in the 25' minute.
-Newman would outshoot Dallas Baptist 4-3 in the first half of play. The Jets would have two of their shots saved in the first half, both of them coming from
Sheree Molina in the 42' and 45' minutes.
-The Jets would harass the Patriots defense and goalkeeper throughout the entire second half, firing off 10 shots.
-The Newman defense was stout just like it was in the first half only allowing two shots from the Dallas Baptist offensive players.
-In the 87' minute
Rosa Urista-Chico had a chance for the game winning goal but was denied by the Dallas Baptist goalkeeper.
-In the first overtime period the Jets would have three opportunities to score in the 97' minute. A shot from Urista-Chico would be saved by the Patriot goalkeeper, which resulted in a put back attempt from
Madison Decker that resulted in a team save and finally
Morgan Foster would attempt her own shot but was denied for the last time by the Dallas Baptist goalkeeper.
-The Jets would have one final attempt to score in the 109' minute in the second overtime period when
Korrie Raney fired a shot that was saved by the Dallas Baptist goalkeeper. Newman didn't allow a single shot in the second overtime period.
NOTES
-The Jets outshot the Patriots 19-6 this afternoon.
-Newman is currently in fifth place in the conference standings with two weeks of regular season conference play remaining.
-The Jets recorded their ninth shutout of the season this afternoon.
