WICHITA, Kan. – After a slow start to the conference match this afternoon at Wilkins Field, the Newman women's soccer team came out after half and reset the tone by scoring three goals, winning 3-1 over Texas A&M International.
KEY SEQUENCE
After allowing one goal in the first half the Jets (5-6-5, 4-5-3 Heartland) responded quickly in the second half with a game tying goal from
Morgan Foster in the 50' minute. Newman would continuously attack the Dustdevils (1-14-1, 1-11-1 throughout the second half getting the eventual game winning goal from
Madison Decker in the 64' minute and adding an insurance goal in the 78' minute from
Erin Mink.
SCORING PLAYS
-17'-TAMIU-Cio Bargallo, unassisted. Shot from far right wing, shot hit the bottom right corner post and rolled into the back left corner of the net.

Morgan Foster, unassisted. Set piece shot right outside the middle of the box, shot past the defending wall into the bottom left corner of the net.

Madison Decker, unassisted. Drove past two defenders, shot from top middle of box, hit the top post and bounced in.

Erin Mink, unassisted. A falling shot from the right side top of the box, placed into the bottom left corner of the net.
HOW IT HAPPENED
-Texas A&M International would fire the first shot of the match in the first minute, which
Ashley Sweetnam also recorded her only save of the afternoon.
-The Dustdevils would score the first goal of the match in the 17' minute and hold onto that lead all the way into halftime.
-The Jets would have chances to score in the first half, putting up seven shots but four out of the seven shots were either saved or blocked by Texas A&M International.
-Newman held the Dustdevils to only two shots in the first half of play.
-The Jets would tie the score up at 1-1 in the 50' minute when Foster scored on a set piece right outside the top of the box, placing it past the defending wall and into the bottom left corner of the net.
-A nice save from
Kelsi Langley in the 63' minute prevented the Dustdevils from regaining the lead.
-Newman would finally break through after a barrage of shot attempts in the 64' minute when Decker drove past two defenders to shoot over the goalie and hit the middle part of the overhead post, which then bounced in to take a 2-1 lead.
-The Jets would add an insurance goal in the 78' minute when Mink was falling down and kicked the ball past the goalie into the bottom left corner of the net.
-The Newman defenders bothered the Dustdevils in the second half just like they did during the first half, only allowing four shots in the second half of play.
NOTES
-With today's win the Jets still remain in fifth place in the conference standings, making the final two conference matches crucial next week if they want to make a push for the conference tournament.
-Newman scored the most goals they have all season in a single game with three goals this afternoon. The last time the Jets have scored at least three goals in a game came against Rogers State on the road last season on Oct. 29.

The Jets remain at home next week to close out the regular season, beginning with Oklahoma Christian Thursday and Lubbock Christian on Saturday.
