HOW IT HAPPENED
-The hosts came out on fire, putting up six shots and grabbing two corners in the opening 18 minutes of the contest. That pressure turned into the only score of the game in the 20th minute.
-Newman took advantage of the restart at midfield after the goal to get off their first shot of the game, as Rosa Urista-Chico took a rip that required a save from LCU keeper Sarah Palmer. Morgan Foster followed that two minutes later with a shot that slid wide.
-The Lady Chaps continued to pepper the Newman end of the field with shots as the first half drew to a close, with the Jets' Cydney Padilla putting a shot of her own on goal in the 43rd.
-LCU cooled down a bit as the second half got underway, with a shot getting blocked a minute into the period, two more going wide and one shot forcing a save out of Kelsi Langley in the opening 15 minutes.
-Newman got its first sustained offense of the game over a three-minute stretch shortly thereafter, as Padilla pushed a shot wide, Erin Mink had one blocked, and two offsides were whistled against the Jets. Newman got a few more opportunities as the contest continued, but weren't able to cash in to tie it up.
NOTES
-LCU ripped off 19 shots in the first half to Newman's three, although just three of the Chaps' attempts were put on goal. The second half was a more balanced 7-3 advantage for LCU, which outshot the Jets 26-7 overall.
-Newman was called offsides five times in the game, all in the second half as they pushed for the equalizer.
-The Jets' defense seems back on track despite the loss. It was the eighth time in 10 games this season that Newman held the opposition to one or fewer goals.
