MAIZE, Kan. —The Newman men's soccer team tied in a double overtime game Saturday, coming out with the same intensity it did in its previous game and they were able to stay with a quality opponent in West Texas A&M through a 0-0 game.
KEY SEQUENCE
The Jets (3-6-3, 1-5-2 Heartland) came out in the second overtime looking to ride the momentum from the previous period, but the Buffs (7-3-1, 5-2-1 Heartland) were looking to finish the job in the second overtime. Both team fought as hard as they could, each team not giving an inch defensively and having the game end in 0-0 tie.
HOW IT HAPPENED
-In the first half, West Texas was able to get good shots off on Newman but none seemed to be falling. Both teams had good looks but just couldn't get any of them netted.
-The Buffs were looking to take the lead in the second half when they were given an opportunity to get a goal across with a corner kick and a header, but with the help of some defense by Kieran Laking, Jamie Barkway, and Chase Bowman the Jets were able to survive going into overtime.
-In the first overtime period, the Jets came out strong defensively and offensively but the Buffs also came out just a strong and again nobody was able to get a goal up.
-In the second overtime, both teams looking to finish the game and both nearing fatigue and trying to slow down the other team with some physical and tough play but either team will to budge or give up anything easy and this led to the game ending in a draw.
NOTES
-In the last three conference games, the Jets have been able to score three goals while giving up just one playing against some of the top teams in the conference.
-Goalie Chase Bowman was able to have his second career high with seven saves in Saturday's tie.
-The Jets have been able to get back into early season form with their tough physical play against some quality opponents, getting points in their last three matches (1-0-2).

The Jet will be back in action Thursday at home against Oklahoma Christian back at Wilkins Field.
