WICHITA, Kan. —The Newman men's basketball team used a huge second half and overtime push to take its first game of the season 87-85. Newman used a big push late in the second half when Cameron was able to scratch back into the game and tie it up leading to overtime, but Newman stayed with its defense and physical offense to take the lead and the victory.
KEY SEQUENCE
The Jet (1-0) would use a 16-0 run in the middle of the first half helping them take a commanding lead going into halftime. In the second half the Aggies (0-1) would use a run of their own making the game a little closer in the beginning of the second half. In overtime Kevin Bryant to take the ball with the game clock winding down, drive it into the lane for the and one layup giving the Jets the lead late and that would lead to the victory.
HOW IT HAPPENED
-In the first half the Jets got off to a rough start shots weren't falling and the defense was lacking a little bit, but with a spark off the bench from Tim Troussel, DeAndre Johnson, and Cameron Goldfinch the Jets were able to use that and come up with a 16-0 run and would lead 43-27 going into halftime.
-The second half started and the Jets would come out hot once again but the defense did begin to lack again giving the Aggies a small advantage and would lead to a 26-14 run and the Aggies going down 59-56 in the middle of the second half. Guard Christian DeYoung really provided a spark for the Jets in the second half. The Aggies would go on another run to tie the game at 78 and send it into overtime.
-In Overtime the Jets started off slow but they stayed with the defense they had been playing all game and with some clutch shots from Kevin Bryant and Ben Ayre the Jets were looking good and when the Aggies missed two free throws late in the overtime, the Jets were able to take advantage and that would lead to the Kevin Bryant and one and the victory for the Jets.
NOTES
-Ben Ayre totaled 11 assist which ties the most in two years since Cortrael Colbert had 11 in a game against Oklahoma Panhandle on Jan. 1, 2015.
-The Jets got off to a great start shooting from three to begin the season making 14 in its victory Friday.
-The Jets were able to have a good rebounding game totaling 17 second chance points to the Aggies seven.

The Jets will back at home Saturday Nov. 11 when they take on Texas A&M-Commerce in the second day of the Heartland/Lone Star Challenge.
