WICHITA, Kan. — The Newman men's basketball team had a rough second half in its lost to Texas A&M Commerce 74-69. Newman was trying to take momentum from Friday's win into Saturday but the defense of Texas A&M-Commerce was able to get the best of Newman.
KEY SEQUENCE
The Jets (1-1) were coming off a halftime lead and wanting to fire on all cylinders and the start of the second half the Lions (2-0) were off to a good start coming back from seven down to take the lead early in the second half. The Jets wouldn't back down changing leads throughout the second half, until the Lions would begin to pull away with some good defense and clutch free throws in route to the 74-69 victory.
HOW IT HAPPENED
-The First half started off good for the Jets they played good physical defense behind some more impressive offense. The Jets got help from its forward position, Andre Sands and Kevin Bryant both had the high at halftime with seven and nine. Jacob Birnbaum gave the Jets a spark off the bench with eight points.
-In the second half the Jets came out slowly on defense and the Lions took advantage of what holes in the Jet defense. The Jets would pick it up in the middle of the second half trading buckets with the Lions throughout the half. The Jets would get into a little bit of foul trouble late in the second half leading to the Lions getting into the bonus and later with some missed shots from the Jets and later free throws the Lions would get a 74-69 victory.
NOTES
-The Jets Andre Sands and Kevin Bryant were named to the all-tournament team after their performances Friday and Saturday.
-The Jets were able to work down low tallying 30 points in the paint.

The Jets will be back in action Wednesday, when they will be taking on Manhattan Christian at home.
