Jets Play Tough In Exhibition With The Shockers

WICHITA, Kan. — The Newman Men's Basketball team lost at Wichita State Monday 113-55 in the Hurricane relief charity game. This game was a good opportunity for Newman moving forward, the team played tough and fought all game.  

KEY SEQUENCE

The Jets was looking to get off to a hot start they were off to a good start in the first half coming off firing on all cylinders. The Shockers defense picked up and the opportunities for the Jets began to become fewer and fewer. The Shockers were able to go on a run late in the first half leading them to a 113-55 victory in this Hurricane relief charity game.

HOW IT HAPPENED

-Newman was looking to go on run to start the first half and with the help of guards, Ben Ayre and Demetrius Walker the Jets got off to a good start. The Jets were also able to keep it a game early and after being down 14 were able to come back and bring the lead down to six before the Shockers went on their run.

-In the second half the Jets came out tough and the shots were not falling as the team wanted but with some good defense, the team was able to make some stops and they were able to come together. The bench played really well and tough in the second half, the team being down but not out they competed to the best of their ability and made a good stepping stone for the season going forward.

NOTES

-Walker and Ayre were both the high men in points for the Jets with 11 and 14.

-Sands was the high man in rebounds with five.

WHAT'S NEXT

The Jets open the season Friday when they will be hosting the Heartland/Lone Star Challenge.
