WICHITA FALLS, Texas — Withstanding an onslaught of pressure for most of the night, the Newman men's soccer team conceded a pair of goals late in a 2-0 loss to No. 6 Midwestern State Saturday night in Heartland Conference action.
KEY SEQUENCE
The Jets (2-5-1, 0-4-0 Heartland) held tight despite a number of shots through the first 25 minutes of the second half against the Mustangs (8-0, 4-0 Heartland). That changed thanks to a pair of corners with less than 20 minutes to play, as Scott Doney used his head to convert a pair and leave Newman looking to score quickly.

HOW IT HAPPENED
-MSU held possession early in the first half, getting two shots in the first nine minutes and adding a dangerous chance on a corner in the 19th, but Laurence Chamberlain's header slid wide to keep it scoreless. Tommy Fiszel recorded Newman's first shot less than a minute later, but it was blocked.
-Fiszel added another shot in the 31st, but it was saved by Mustang keeper Richard Goss. The hosts finished the half with a flurry, as Chase Bowman needed to make a save in the 41st, and two quick shots from the Mustangs were both blocked in the 43rd.
-After a pair of MSU shots in the first 10 minutes of the second half, Fiszel put a charge into one again, forcing another save out of Goss. That would be the final shot of the game for the Jets though, as the Mustangs began peppering the offensive end, leading to their two goals.
NOTES
-While MSU won the shot total, the Mustangs were held to just three shots on goal, with all three coming on corners.
-Fiszel netted all three Newman shots, putting two on-goal.
