DALLAS — The Newman men's soccer team was able to produce more chances, but fell 2-0 on the road against Dallas Baptist in Heartland Conference play Thursday evening.

Neither team was dominating possession, but DBU got a chance to count in the 78th, as Ethan Martinez caught a flick off his teammate's head and slid a shot past the keeper to double the lead late.

HOW IT HAPPENED
-Jamie Barkway picked up the first shot of the game for either team, putting one on goal in the sixth that forced a save out of DBU keeper Sean Bouland. Three minutes later though, the Patriots got their first shot, and it was also on goal, as Brooks Friedman converted a corner for the early lead.
-That lead held up despite Newman pushing the pace. The Jets put together two corners and two shots over a 13-minute stretch in the middle of the first half, with Tommy Fiszel's chance in the 26th knocking off the post. Barkway notched another shot on goal in the 43rd, but DBU maintained the lead at the break.
-Jonatas Esgolmin lifted a shot high to begin the action in the second half, and Ed Jabbari blasted a shot on goal in the 65th, but Bouland came up with another save. DBU's goal in the 78th was its first shot of the second half.
-The second goal seemed to bring a renewed effort from the Jets, who got a shot from Jabbari shortly after the restart. Jabbari, Rich Wincer and Fiszel each fired shots in the final three minutes, but all three went wide or high.
