WICHITA, Kan. — The Newman women's soccer team won a well-played game on Saturday, leaning on its tough defense and playing physical and tough soccer in a 6-2 win over Oklahoma Christian.
KEY SEQUENCE
The Jets (7-3-1, 4-2-1 Heartland) were shooting on all cylinders in the first half, but in the second half the Eagles (1-9-0, 0-7-0 Heartland) cut the lead in half. The Jets came back with a goal of its own in the 60th minute to push it to a 5-2 lead and set up the game-clinching goal in the 75th minute.

HOW IT HAPPENED
-In the seventh minute Karen Tamayo had a rebound shot for her third goal of the season and putting the Jets up 1-0.
-Rosa Urista-Chico had gotten in on the action and in the ninth minute she received a cross from Vanessa Ortiz for her sixth goal of the season and increased the lead.
-Tamayo scored her second goal in the 18th minute when she received a pass in the box from Urista-Chico.
-Colleen Howland put the Jets up 4-0 in the 41st minute when she received a pass from Erin Mink in the box for the score.
-The Eagles came out in the second half and was able to get on the board when a corner kick hit off a Newman player for an own goal.
-The Eagles cut the lead in half in the 52nd when Chanie Scrivner received an assist from Lauren Parker for the goal in the box.
-The Jets were able to extend their lead when Kaitlyn Logan was given a cross pass from Karen Tamayo for the goal and her first of the season.
-In the 75th minute, the Jets clinched the game when Urista-Chico received a short pass from Colleen Howland for the goal in the box into the right post.
NOTES
-The Jets have won two consecutive games at home to close out the first half of the Heartland season. Newman sits in third place in the standings with a 4-2-1 league record and 13 points.
-Newman outshot their opponents both games at home, holding a 20-4 edge on Saturday against OC and 34-12 the past two games.
