WICHITA, KAN – The Newman University men's soccer team lost a 2-1 heartbreaker on the road late Thursday afternoon (Oct. 11). The Jets drop to 6-6-1 on the year and fall to 3-5-1 in the Heartland Conference.
Both defensive units showed up in the first half, leading to a scoreless first half of play. The Jets and Chaparrals each fired off six shots in the first half.
The Jets jumped out to an early 1-0 lead in the 50th minute on Carlos Rubio Garcia's second goal of the season. Thirty seconds later Lubbock Christian would add the equalizer on a free kick coming off a Jets foul.
With 1:03 left in regulation, the Jets were called for a highly controversial foul inside the box setting up a Lubbock Christian penalty kick. The Chaparrals capitalized on the penalty kick taking a 2-1 lead. The Jets were unable to get the equalizing goal in the final minute of the game. 
The Jets will finish their final road game of the regular season Saturday (Oct. 13) against Texas-Permian Basin. Kickoff is scheduled for 1 p.m. from UTPB Soccer Field.
