WICHITA, Kan. – The Newman University men's soccer team lost a tough one Thursday evening (Oct. 18) against #7 ranked Midwestern State 1-0 at Wilkins Field. The Jets fall to 7-7-1 overall and 4-6-1 in the Heartland.

The Jets came out strong putting the early pressure on the Mustangs controlling the early tempo throughout the first five minutes. Tommy Fiszel missed an early opportunity in the 6th minute firing a shot wide left as the Mustangs keeper came way out of the box putting pressure on Fiszel's kick.

The Mustangs took the early 1-0 advantage in the 16th minute as Juan Ramirez curved home his fifth goal of the season beating Jean Claude Consol far right upper 90 post just outside the 18'.

The Jets had one more good opportunity late in the first half with a four on two counter attack but poor ball handling halted the scoring opportunity. The Mustangs took the 1-0 lead into the break.

The Jets got an early opportunity in the second half when leading goal scorer for the Jets fired a shot wide left. The Mustangs defense locked down on defense the rest of the way limiting the Jets to only two second half shots and four shots for the whole game.

The Jets will look to get back in the win column on Saturday afternoon (Oct. 20) as they host Oklahoma Christian. Kickoff is scheduled for 2:30 p.m. from Wilkins Field.
