Second Half Goals Lift Jets Over Eagles

WICHITA, Kan. – The Newman University men's soccer team got back on the winning side defeating Oklahoma Christian 2-0 Saturday afternoon (Oct. 20) at Wilkins Field. The Jets improve to 8-7-1 overall and 5-6-1 in the Heartland.

The Jets and Falcons both struggled to find scoring opportunities in the first half. Each team produced just three shots a piece through the first forty-five minutes. The teams headed into the break scoreless.

Late in the second half Vince Couto nailed in his first goal of the season off a free kick cross from Davide Panucci giving the Jets the 1-0 advantage.

The Jets packed it back in on the defensive end trying to secure the goal advantage. In the 89th minute Jean Claude Consol scooped up a loose ball heading for the left post.

Ignacio Lerech put the game away adding an insurance goal late in the 89th minute putting it over the goalies right shoulder.

The Jets will continue their homestead Thursday (Oct. 25) as they host Rogers State. Kickoff is slated for 7:30 p.m. from Wilkins Field.
