Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Jets Stumble Against St. Mary's 1-0

WICHITA, Kan. — The Newman women's soccer team saw their chances towards their first ever Heartland Conference title dwindle Thursday evening (Oct. 18) suffering a crushing 1-0 defeat to St. Mary's. The Jets fall to 10-2-3 on the year and drop to 6-2-3 in the Heartland.

Neither team was able to find the back of the net in the first half as the two teams headed into the break all knotted up. The Jets controlled the time of possession and outshot the Rattlers 10-2 in the first half.

The Jets had a golden opportunity to net home the first goal in the 59th minute when leading goal scorer Grace Linton's shot one-on-one with the Rattlers keeper was denied right inside the 18'. Just five minutes later in the 64th minute Linton fired another shot on target but the Jets were unlucky as the ball bounced off the keepers' hands deflecting off the crossbar.

The Rattlers in the 84th minute forced a Jets turnover leading to the lone goal on a chip shot over the outreached hands of keeper Jacki Lari.

The Jets outshot the Rattlers 23-4 in the contest despite the loss.

The Jets will look to rebound on Saturday (Oct. 20) as they host Texas A&M International at Wilkins Field, kickoff scheduled for 12 p.m.
