WICHITA, KAN – The Newman University women's soccer team suffered a heartbreaking 3-1 overtime defeat Thursday evening against Rogers State. The Jets fall to 11-3-3 on the year and drop to 7-3-3 in Heartland play.

The Hillcats controlled the possession for most of the first half outshooting the Jets 6-2 in the first forty five minutes of play. The Hillcats took the lead finding the back of the net in the 45th minute just 24 seconds left in the first half. 

The Hillcats came out of the halftime break adding an insurance goal in the 50th minute gaining the 2-0 advantage. Senior forward Grace Linton capitalized on a hand ball penalty shot in the 65th minute cutting the deficit in half to 2-1.

The Jets continued to pressure the defensive line of the Hillcats in the second half. The Jets outshot the Hillcats 14-3. Kyra Butler netted home the equalizer in the 90th minute with just 16 seconds left for her first goal of the year forcing overtime.

Early in the first overtime period the Hillcats took advantage of poorly Jets defensively miscue netting home the 3-2 game winning goal in the 94th minute.

The Jets will wrap up the regular season Saturday (Oct. 27) as they host Oklahoma Christian on senior day. Kickoff is scheduled for 12 p.m. from Wilkins Field in Wichita, KS.
