WICHITA, Kan. — The Newman volleyball team lost a tough conference matchup to finish up their home schedule Tuesday to Arkansas-Fort Smith losing in three sets. The Jets were looking to finish off their final home game with a victory but came up just short.
In the first set, the Jets started the game off going back and forth with the lions trading points where they can and keeping themselves in the game with help from Yemima Buana, Kennadi Myers, and Jada Key. The Lions got an advantage going into the latter part of the set and would ride that momentum to the first set victory.
In the second set, the Jets got production from Buana again while Key and Braddy also had a helping hand in the set for the Jets, but would come up just shy in their efforts as the Lions would take set two and gain a 2-0 set advantage going into the third set.
At the beginning of the third set, the Jets were locked in a battle with the Lions to start the set, kills coming from Cassie Pauls, Buana and Myers allowed the Jets to stay in the set with Fort Smith and down 19-16 going into the final portion of the set. The Lions would get some kills late and take the set and match victory 25-18.
Yemima Buana led the team in kills for the third straight game finishing with seven for the Jets.
The Jets travel to Lubbock, Texas for their season finale matchup with Lubbock Christian Saturday, November 3.
