WICHITA, Kan. —The Newman Jets volleyball team lost a tough conference matchup to St. Mary's in three sets falling 25-19, 25-20, and 25-16. The Jets fought hard in the second set to close the Rattler lead to five but would fall in the closing points of the set.

In the second set, the Jets would fall behind the Rattlers in by one going into the later part of the set. After a Cassie Pauls kill the Jets were locked in a battle with the Rattler's, after the Rattler's were able to get two quick points the Jets came right back with two points of their own closing the St. Mary's lead to four but a late kill by the Rattler's gave them the set two victory.

After service errors by both teams at the beginning of the third set the Jets were able to get back on track and get a couple of quick points over the Rattlers. Falling behind in the middle of the set the Jets were looking to get back in it after a kill by Yemima Buana the Jets were on their way back into it. After another kill by Newman's Sophia Helsing, the Jets found themselves down eight and would fall to the Rattler's in the third set 25-15.

The Jets were able to keep all three sets close with the Rattler's trading point throughout the game with the help of some strong play on both sides.

Yemima Buana led the Jets with 8 kills, while Jada Key finished with 6 kills. 

Reagen Roth helped get her teammates on track tallying 27 kills

The Jets return to action Saturday as they host Texas A&M-International with the first serve coming at noon.
