WICHITA, Kan. —After coming back to take the third set the Newman volleyball team would fall in five sets to Texas A&M-International 26-24, 25-22, winning set three and four 25-20 and 25-15. The DustDevils would take the final set 15-11.
In the third set, the Jets would trade points with the DustDevils either team gaining an edge and no one able to gain an advantage offensively. In the later portion of the set the Jets would score four straight points to get to match point after a Texas A&M bad set, the DustDevils would get two quick points but another bad set would give the Jets the third set victory.
Trying to force a fifth set the Jets went into the fourth set with some momentum and it carried over to the next set. In the middle of the set the Jets would rattle off four straight points to take an eight point lead, then after a Texas A&M kill the Jets would score three straight times to take a ten point lead and would later take the fourth set setting up a fifth set.
After a Kennadi Myers kill the Jets found themselves down 12-10 in the fifth set. The defense was looking to get a stop so the offense would be able to get set up. The DustDevils were able to get two late kills and take the momentum from Newman gain an advantage and later the fifth set victory.
Cassie Paul led the way with 13 kills for the Jets, while Hailey Braddy finished with 10 for the game.
Reagen Roth finished with 39 assists to lead the Jets.
The Jets return to action Tuesday October, 9 as they travel to Fort Smith, Arkansas to take on Arkansas-Fort Smith.
