CLAREMORE, OKLA – The Newman University men's soccer team played to a 3-3 draw Thursday night against Rogers State University. With the draw Newman drops to 5-5-1 on the year and 2-4-1 in the Heartland.
Rogers State led the push early in the contest, catching the Jet's defense sleeping in the third minute taking an early 1-0 lead. Just nine minutes later a deflected ball in front of the net found the foot of Ed Jabbari. Jabbari hammered home his team leading seventh goal knotting the score up at 1-1. The two teams settled down after the early scoring, keeping it a 1-1 game heading into the break.
The second half would be a complete different style of play turning into a shootout, as the two teams combined for three goals in the final 13 minutes of regulation. The Jets' fell behind 2-1 in the 61st minute after an own goal costed the Jets. In the 78th minute freshman defender Arnar Jonsson delivered the 2-2 equalizer on a free kick from 25 yards out beating the Hillcats keeper upper corner netting his first colligate goal.
Three minutes and thirteen seconds later, Ignacio Lerech would give the Jets their first lead 3-2 on a shot from 35-yards out beating the keeper over the top on Carlos Rubio Garcia's assist. The Jets defense was unable to keep the lead as the Hillcats evened the match up 3-3 in the 87th minute.
In the overtime the defenses locked down playing mistake free ball for the final twenty minutes of the match. The Jets' offense was unable to strike for any shots in the extra frames, being outshot 2-0.

The Jets will return home Saturday (Oct. 6) at 12:00 p.m. as they host Texas A&M International at Wilkins Field in Wichita, KS
