AUSTIN, Texas. – The Newman University women's soccer team saw their season come to an end in a hard fought 3-1 defeat to Dallas Baptist University, Thursday afternoon in the Semifinals of the Heartland Conference Tournament.
The Jets got off to a sluggish start as DBU converted early on a corner kick in the 2nd minute taking a 1-0 lead. Wichita, KS native Colleen Howland gave the Jets a great opportunity to tie the match in the 8th minute as she laced a shot that was saved by DBU's keeper. The Jets fell behind 2-0 after a penalty kick was awarded to the Patriots in the 16th minute.
The Jets headed into the halftime break trailing 2-0, while only being outshot 8-7.
The Jets caught an unlucky break in the 66th minute when a loose ball found a wide open DBU striker just five yards putting the Jets in a 3-0 hole.
The Jets got some momentum in the 71st minute, when Heartland Conference Offensive Player of the year Grace Linton found the back of the net on a cross from Colleen Howland, cutting the Patriots lead to 3-1.
The Jets finished a tremendous season going 12-4-3, setting a new program record for most wins in a single season.
