Lawton, Okla. — The Newman men's basketball team lost their second game at the Heartland/Lone Star Challenge to Texas A&M-Commerce 76-56, the Jets were looking to work their way back from their lost Friday with a strong game form the team.
Early in the first half the teams were locked in a battle with contribution coming from Marshawn Blackmon, Ben Ayre and Juwan Davenport. The Jets defense was able to come out strong, falling behind late in the first half 32-27.
In the second half, it was still a close game early but going in the middle of the half the Jets defense began to sputter but were able to fight back and try to get themselves into back into the contest. Newman would be able to cut the Lions lead to 12 with eight minutes left in the game. The Lions would use a late run to their advantage, winning the game late against the Jets.
The Jets got a strong showing from Blackmon, Ayre, and Walker helping the Jets throughout the weekend providing offense and a number of defensive stops with a number of other Jets players who also had strong showings throughout the weekend.
The Jets return home for their home opener Wednesday Nov. 14 for a matchup with Manhattan Christian College at 7 PM.
