Offensive Struggle Halts Jets Four Game Winning Streak

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. — Newman University suffered a gut wrenching 78-53 loss at Drury University on Saturday afternoon (Nov. 24) in the final game of the Drury Classic. The loss ends the Jets four game winning streak, dropping the Jets to 4-3 on the year.

The Jets saw their only lead Saturday afternoon in the opening minute of the contest when Marshawn Blackmon drilled his lone 3-pointer of the game. The Jets' offense quickly went into hibernation making just one shot over the next nine minutes. The Panthers meanwhile used a 16-2 run gaining an 18-5 lead just before the midway part of the first half.

The Jets trailed at halftime 34-18, while shooting just 6 for 30 from the field for a frigid 20-percent.

In the second half, the offensive woes continued despite the Jets fighting strong cutting the Panthers lead from 28 with 12:38 to play back down to 19 after a layup underneath by Juwan Davenport with 10:40 left. The Jets were unable to get closer than 15 points in the second half, as the offensive woes continued.

Blackmon once again led the Jets with 15 points while Davenport had 11 points. They were the only Jets in double figures.

The Jets will regroup as they begin Heartland play Wednesday evening (Nov. 28) at 6 p.m. in Austin, TX taking on the Hilltoppers of St. Edwards.
