The Jets Lose A Tough Road Series To Arkansas-Fort Smith

FORT SMITH, Ark — The Newman baseball team lost two tough games at the hands of the Lions of Arkansas-Fort Smith. The Jets would lose game one 5-4 and game two the Jets would go down 13-2.

Game 1

Key Sequence

The Jets (12-22, 4-8 Heartland) were looking at a one-run lead going into the bottom of the seventh inning, but the Lions (23-8, 9-2 Heartland) would use the latter part of the seventh for their rally. Drew Duncan would single up the middle scoring Anthony Seminaris and tie the game at four, later Brandan Warner singled down the right field line scoring Duncan and giving the Lions the game 1 victory.

How It Happened

-The Lions got on the board first when Troy Cahill homered to left field giving Arkansas-Fort Smith the early lead. Early in the second, the Lions would get another run from a Jace Pitchford home run to left field their lead was now 2-0.

-Newman would get on the board in the top of the third when Brian Canfield walked with the bases loaded scoring Ked Bailey cutting the Lions lead to one-run.

-Arkansas-Fort Smith added another run in the third on a Cahill double to left center scoring Logan Allen and giving the Lions a 3-1 lead.

-The Jets would cut the lead and tie the game in the fifth, Paul Rupnik would hit a sacrifice fly to center field scoring Turner Lace, later in the inning Canfield singled through the left side scoring Bailey and tying the game at three. Newman would take the lead in the seventh on a Channing Williams single to left center scoring Lace and the team would take a 4-3 lead.

-In the Bottom of the seventh, the Lions would begin their rally beginning with a Seminaris walk and steal, Duncan later came up and singled up the middle scoring Seminaris and tying the game at four. Wagner would later come up after an Allen single to the shortstop, Wagner would single down the right-field line scoring Duncan and giving the Lions the 5-4 game 1 victory.

Game 2

Key Sequence

The Jets (12-22, 4-8 Heartland) were looking at a four-run deficit in the fourth against the Lions (23-8, 9-2 Heartland), Arkansas-Fort Smith would use a big fifth inning scoring nine runs and later getting the game 2 victory and the series win.

How It Happened

-The Lions would get on the board first on a sacrifice fly by Cahill scoring Allen and giving Arkansas-Fort Smith the early lead.

-Newman would tie the game in the third, Channing Williams singled to right center scoring Easton Herring the game was now nodded at one.

-The Lions would get back on the board when Duncan homered to left field putting Fort Smith up 2-1, later in the inning, Dion Williams doubled down the right field line scoring Cahill and upping the Lions lead to two runs.

-In the middle innings, the Lions would get big production from their lineup in these two innings the Lions were able to rack up 10 runs extending their lead to 12, giving them the game 2 advantage and later the victory.

Notes

-Channing Williams would finish the day 4-for-6 with two RBIs, Williams is now tied for the team lead in RBIs with 26.

-Roger Wilson had a good game one going six strong innings giving up four hits while walking three and striking out four for the Jets.

The Jets travel to Oklahoma City for a matchup with Oklahoma Christian April 13-14.
