KEARNEY, Neb. — Facing two tough opponents to close out the UNK Fall Classic, the Newman women's volleyball fell 3-0 to South Dakota Mines and 3-0 to host Nebraska-Kearny Saturday. The Jets were trying to continue their momentum from Friday afternoon's win but fell just short.
South Dakota Mines
Key Sequence
The Jets (1-4) were looking at a back and forth battle in the third set trying to get back in the match. Newman's defense was able to stand strong and not letting the Rockers (2-6) gain an advantage until the end of the set when the Rockers were able to get two strong kills for the set and match victory.
How It Happened
-The Jets were able to keep the first two sets close as they showed no signs of fatigue giving the Rockers everything they had until the final point. The defense was coming in bunches keeping South Dakota Mines at bay, blocks coming from Yemima Buana, Sophia Helsing, and Trinity Conley the Jets kept the sets close falling by three and six in the first two sets.
-In the third set, Newman showed more signs of a fight being able to capitalize on Rocker mistakes as well as minimal mistakes themselves. Only down four going into the final point of the set looking to make a comeback Newman was determined to get back into the match but the Rockers used two strong offensive sets to take game one.
Nebraska-Kearney
Key Sequence
After a kill by Sophia Helsing, the Jets (1-4) found themselves down by five to the Lopers (8-0) in the third set. The teams would continue their back and forth matching each other's points but a couple Newman mistakes would help the Lopers gain an eight-point lead and later the game and tournament victory.
How It Happened
-The Lopers were able to take control at the beginning of sets one and two, but the Jets weren't backing down getting Kills from Yemima Buana and Trinity Conley along with assists from Reagen Roth. Newman would begin to make a comeback in set number two but fell just short after a couple of tough mistakes.
-Going into the third set the Jets were looking to finish the tournament on a high note and trying to keep pace with the Lopers but some costly mistakes saw the Jets down 10. Newman wasn't going down easy getting three straight points from Helsing as well as an assist from Reagen Roth but Nebraska Kearney got the match-point after a service error to take game two and get the tournament victory.
Notes
-Kennadi Myers and Hailey Braddy both had a strong game when it came to kills against South Dakota Mines tallying 16 kills combined.
-The Jets were able to get a strong assist game from Reagen Roth tallying 41 assists between both games.

The Jets return home to host the Jet Classic beginning Thursday, September 6 at 5 P.M.
