WICHITA, Kan. — The Newman women's volleyball team lost a tough matchup to Central Missouri to begin the 2018 Jet Classic Thursday, the Jets fell to the Jennies 25-13, 25-18, and 25-21.

Key Sequence

The Jets (1-5) were looking at a one-point deficit in the third set, after a kill by Yemima Buana. The Jennies (7-2) used strong defense and well-orchestrated offense to score six straight points for the set and game victory.

How it happened

-Early in the first two sets, the Jets were able to remain neck and neck with the Jennies both teams trading kills. Newman was able to get some strong kills from Sophia Helsing and Cassie Pauls. In the second set, the Jets were neck and neck with the Jennies only being down three after an attack error by Hannah VanBuskirk. The Jennies were able to finish strong as they came away with three straight points for the set two victory.

-In the third set, Newman found themselves in another close set with the Jennies after a Buana and Kennadi Myers kill the Jets found themselves up 20-18. After some slight mistakes, the Jets had a one-point deficit and later in the set the Jennies would get the set and game victory after kills by VanBuskirk and Audrey Fisher.

Notes

-Reagan Roth had another good game on offense giving the Jets a game-high 22 assists.

-As a team, the Jets were able to total 31 kills for the game including outhitting Central Missouri 16-12 in the third set.

The Jets return to the court Saturday for a matchup with Ouachita Baptist at 6 P.M.
