Jets Fall In Tough Road Matchup To End Streak At Five To Start The Season

LUBBOCK, Texas — Looking to push their streak to six as the Newman women's soccer team lost a tough conference matchup to Lubbock Christian 2-1 Saturday afternoon. The Jets were able to get a goal early as the Chaps pick up to goals late.

Key Sequence

The Jets (5-1-0, 1-1 Heartland) were looking at a 1-1 tie with the Chaps (2-4-0, 1-1 Heartland) late in the second half. Both teams looked in a battle until the Chaps were able to get the ball in the box as Allison Scott was able to get an assist by Dallas Sanders and Makenna Pate for the Lubbock goal and the 2-1 victory.

How It Happened

-In the first half, Newman was able to get on the board early in the 19th minute, as Collen Howland was able to find Grace Linton in the box after the ball was misplayed by the goalie for the Jets goal and 1-0 lead.

-The second half was in full force as the teams were deadlocked at one in a battle after a goal by Lubbock's Hollie Windham. In the 71st minute, the Chaps were able to take the lead after a corner kick and header by Dallas Sanders and Makenna Pate gave Allison Scott the opportunity to score and take the 2-1 lead and later getting the game victory.

Notes

-Linton was able to get shots up for the Jets as she had four shots total with two coming on goal.

-The Jets starting 5-0 was the best start for the team in the history of Newman in the Division II-era.
