WICHITA, KAN – The Newman University women's soccer team played to their second consecutive 0-0 draw Saturday afternoon against St. Edwards University. The Jets move to 7-1-2 on the year and 3-1-2 in Heartland play.
The Jets and Hilltoppers both went back and forth in the first half in an early key conference game matchup. Neither team gained the momentum through the first forty-five minutes. Both clubs only tallied three shots in the first half. SEU's best opportunity in the first half came in the 27th minute, Jets keeper Jackie Lari thought otherwise recording the one on one save keeping the game deadlocked. The Jets only big chances in the first half came on shots by Karen Tamayo in the 36th and 37th minute.
The Jets controlled the tempo and possession in the second half. Grace Linton gave the Jets their best scoring chance in the 59th minute from just inside the box, but SEU's keeper thought otherwise deflecting away the shot on the one-on-one opportunity. The Jets caught a break in the 72nd minute as SEU got a shot through Lori's outreached hands doinking off the crossbar. Neither team found the back of the net in the later stages of the second half forcing overtime.
In the extra time frames the Jets defense had a couple defensive breakdowns, but freshman keeper Jackie Lari came through with three key saves keeping it knotted up. Neither team would find the back of the net in extra time finishing in a 0-0 tie.

The Jets will be back in action Thursday (Oct. 4th) against Lubbock Christian University. Kickoff is schedule for 7pm from Wilkins Field in Wichita.
