DALLAS, TEX – The Newman Jets volleyball team fought hard Saturday afternoon, but came up short falling in three straight sets, 3-0 to Dallas Baptist University. The Jets dropped to 1-15 on the year and fell to 0-2 in the Heartland Conference.
The Jets looking for their first conference win of the season, jumped out to an early first set lead, 5-4 after a DBU attacking error. DBU would even the score up before taking full advantage on eight Jet errors, cruising to a 25-15 first set victory.
Newman would jump out front quickly after Yemima Buana, and Kasey Holand kills holding a 3-1 lead. The Jets would continue to maintain the momentum midway through the second set after Trinity Conley's kill put the Jets out front 12-8, forcing DBU to burn a timeout. The Jets would lose momentum quickly with eleven handling errors letting DBU hang in the match. The Patriots would rally using a 17-4 run capturing the second set 25-17.
The Jets having fallen behind 2-0 in the match would continue to fight but it would be all Patriots in the third set cruising to a 25-13 match victory.
Trinity Conley led the Jets with 5 kills.
The Jets will travel to Emporia, KS Tuesday evening in a non-conference matchup against the Emporia State Hornets with first serve scheduled for 6 p.m.
