WICHITA, Kan. — After a 1-0 deficit early in the second half, the Newman men's soccer team used good defense and a well-orchestrated offense to get the 2-1 victory over Southern Nazarene Tuesday. The Jets used offense to their advantage in the second half gaining an edge on the Storm for their first victory of the season.

The Jets (1-1-0) were looking at a tied game going into the 71st minute when Carlos Rubio Garcia was able to take a pass down the field and gain an advantage on the Storm (1-2-0) defense for the goal giving Newman a 2-1 lead and later the game victory.

How It Happened
-The Storm was able to get on the board first as Jace Peckham took the ball downfield, past the Newman defense for the first goal of the game and giving Southern Nazarene the lead early in the second half.
-The Jets were able to stop the storm on multiple possessions in the second half while setting up their offense. In the 70th minute, Andreas Agrell was able to take the ball to Newman's side of the field and creating an opportunity for himself as well as tying the game for the Jets.
-Newman was able to take the ball to their side of the field after another stop on defense, this time Carlos Rubio was able to take a pass from his teammate to set up a shot of his own, the goal gave the Jets the lead and with some good defense, Newman was able to pick up the 2-1 victory.
Notes
-Newman outshot the Storm 19-13 as well as, 9-6 on shots on goal in Tuesday's victory.
-Rubio Garcia and Ed Jabbari were able to lead the way on shots on goal for the Jets both players had two shots each.
