WICHITA, Kan. - The Jets Volleyball team came into Tuesday night's matchup looking for their first win of the season against a Pittsburg State team that was barely above .500 (7-6, 2-2). Newman would come out of the gates on fire, before the Gorillas were able to figure them out in the later sets to take the match in five sets.

In the first set, Newman was able to jump out to an early 16-2 lead before Pittsburg State was able to climb back into it. Even though the Jets got outscored by the Gorillas 18-9 to finish out the set, Newman's hot start proved to be the deciding factor in the set as they took it 25-20.

The second set was more competitive, both teams would go back and forth nearly the entire match. After being tied 4-4, the Jets would slowly build their lead to five as they were able to string together multiple points at a time. Newman would eventually take the set 25-20.

The third set is where things would start to change for the Jets. After being tied 5-5, the Gorillas were able to score three straight points and they never looked back from there. Newman would try to battle back into it but would eventually fall 25-19.

After the Gorillas were able to force a fourth set, they took full advantage of their opportunity. Tied at 2-2, Pittsburg State scored eight straight points to take a large lead. The Jets would fight back and get the score to 17-14 in favor of the Gorillas. Pittsburg State would again score eight straight points to close out the set, winning 25-14.

In the fifth and final set, the Gorillas would continue to build on what they did in the fourth set as they were able to jump out to an early 8-3 lead at the switch. Pittsburg State would finish the set out on a 7-3 run to win the set and the match.
