WICHITA, Kan. - Missouri Western State University came into Fugate Gymnasium Saturday afternoon to take on the Jets in a Mid-American Intercollegiate Athletics Association Conference matchup. This would be a game thta would be pretty close through the first two sets before MWSU would run away with the third set.
In the first set, both teams would go back and forth for most of the set with the Griffons slowly building a lead. Trailing 20-19 the Jets would go on to give up a 5-2 run to the Griffons to close out the match losing 25-21.
The second set would prove to be more of the same for both teams. Newman would jump out to an early 7-4 lead but would turn around and give up three straight points to the Griffons to let them tie the set back up. Both teams would then start trading leads back and forth. With Newman leading 16-15 MWSU would be able to get three straight points for the final lead change of the match as they would win 25-20.
The third set would be a rough one for the Jets. Newman would start the match giving up four straight points to the Griffons. Newman was able to bounce back and bring the score back to 9-5 in favor of NWSU. However, after being able to claw back into the match the Jets would dig themselves into an even deeper whole as they give up six straight points to the Griffons who were able tp extend their lead to 15-5. Newman would put up a valiant effort to get back into the match but NWSU would win the match 25-15.
