WICHITA, Kan. - The Newman Jets Volleyball team played host to the Fort Hays State Tigers this evening. Fort Hays State would come in just two spots ahead of the Jets in the MIAA Conference standings. 

The first set would be close for most of the match with Newman slowly being able to build their lead. With the Jets ahead 12-11, they would go on a 7-1 run to extend their lead to 19-12. Fort Hays State would be able to get back into the game with a 5-1 run to make the score 23-21 in favor of the Jets. Newman would then be able to score two straight points to put the game away and take the first set, 25-21.

In the second set, the Jets struggled to slow down the Tigers offense. With the score 10-9 in favor of Newman, Fort Hays State would go on a 16-4 run to finish out the set. The Tigers would go on runs of  3-0, 4-0 and 6-0 during that span. Fort Hays State would take the second set 25-14 to even up the score at one a piece.

The third set would be similar to the second set for the Jets. FHSU would lead the whole set. With the score 10-8 in favor of the Tigers, they would go on a 15-7 run to finish out the set and win 25-15 to take the lead in the match 2-1.

The Jets would come into the fourth set trying to get their feet back under them and force a decisive fifth set. Newman would come out and score the first point then turn around and give up a 4-0 run to the Tigers to fall behind 4-1. The Jets would be able to rally together and tie the set at 6-6. Both teams would go back and forth scoring points until the score was 21-19 in favor of the Tigers. At this point in the match, the Jets would go on their own big run as they are able to score 6 unanswered points with an exclamation point put on the set by Trinity Conley as she would score the final point for the Jets with a solo block.

In the fifth and final set, Newman would come out on fire. They would score the first six points of the set behind a service ace by Eve Pearson and three kills by Trinity Conley. Fort Hays State would be able to get the score to 8-4 in favor of the Jets at the switch. Both teams would go back and forth trading points until 12-9 where the Jets would go on a 3-0 run to secure the match and their first win of the season.
