WICHITA, Kan. - This afternoon the Newman Jets women's volleyball team hosted the #2 University of Nebraska - Kearney. The Jets came into this Saturday afternoon matchup riding a high from a win Friday night win. While the Lopers came in looking to keep their record with a blemish.
The Lopers would start today's matchup on fire, as they scored the first twelve points in the first set. The Jets were able to put up a fight late to finish the set with a score of 25-11 in favor of UNK.
Newman would struggle to slow down the Lopers offense in the second set as well. The Jets were able to keep it close early. With the score being 5-3 for the Lopers, UNK would turn on the offense and go on a 20-6 run to close out the set and take the 2-0 lead for the match.
In the third set, the Jets would put up a valiant effort to avoid the sweep. However, they would end up falling short. With Newman trailing 10-9, Kearney would score five unanswered points to take a six point lead. The Jets would battle back late in the set to get within four points as the score was 23-19 for UNK. Kearney would then score the matches two final points to finish the three set sweep.

Newman will be back in action Tuesday as they travel to Pittsburg, Kan. to take on the Pittsburg State Gorillas at 6:00 P.M.
