PITTSBURG, Kan. – On Tuesday Night, the Newman Jets traveled to Pittsburg, Kan. to take on the Pittsburg State Gorillas inside John Lance Arena. The Jets looked to bounce back from their loss on Saturday to the #2 Nebraska-Kearney Lopers. While Pittsburg State was looking to get to .500 on the season.
In the beginning of the first set, it was a back and forth contest where neither team could gain a clear advantage. Trailing 9-7, the Jets would begin to have trouble scoring points as the Gorillas would take the lead and never look back. The Gorillas would win the first set by a score of 25-14.
In the second set, the Jets would struggle to slow down the Gorillas offense trailing 7-1 early. The Jets would climb back in the set as they would get the score to 14-13, in favor of PSU. However, the Gorillas would pull away from the Jets going on a 11-3 run to end the set which included a 3-0 and 6-0 run. The Gorillas would win the second set by a score of 25-16 and take the 2-0 lead for the match.
In the third and final set, the Jets would put up a great effort to avoid the sweep. However, they would fall just short. With the Jets leading 15-13, the offensive struggles would start back up for the Jets as the Gorillas would go on a 12-5 run to end the third set including a 5-0 run to defeat the Jets 25-20 and complete the three-set sweep.
