EMPORIA, Kan. – On Friday night, the Newman Jets traveled to take on the Emporia State Hornets inside White Auditorium. The Jets were looking to bounce back after Tuesday's loss at Pittsburg State, while Emporia State was looking for the season sweep of the Jets.
In the first set, it was a back and forth with neither team being able to gain a clear advantage. With the match tied 11-11, the Jets and the Hornets would continue to exchange points until Emporia State would be able to break free and win the first set by a score of 25-21.
In the second set, the Jets would struggle creating any offense against the Hornets. Trailing 10-6, the Hornets would go on a 15-7 run including a 3-0 run and two 4-0 runs during that span. Emporia State would win the set by a score of 25-13 and take the match lead 2-0.
In the third set, the Jets were looking to avoid the sweep. However, Newman would fall just short of being able to extend the match. With the Jets leading 24-19, the offensive struggles would continue to haunt the Jets as Emporia State would make a comeback and go on a 7-0 run to end the set 26-24 and complete the 3-0 sweep.
