TOPEKA, Kan. - The Jets continued their road trip this afternoon as they traveled to the states capital to take on the #4 Washburn University Ichabods inside Lee Arena. The Jets were looking to rebound from last night's loss at Emporia State, while Washburn was looking to continue their win streak.
In the first set, the Jets were in a back and forth match to start the set. However the Jets offense would struggle to gain any momentum against the Ichabod offense. With the Jets trailing 12-9, the Ichabods would go on a 13-6 run to end the first set including a 6-0 run in that span. Washburn would win the first set by a score of 25-15 and take the lead in the match 1-0.
In the second set, the offensive struggles would continue to haunt the Jets. With the Jets trailing 10-7, the Ichabods would take care of the Jets going on a 15-3 run with a 5-0 run and a 6-0 run in that span. Washburn would take the second set by a score of 25-10, leading the match 2-0.
In the third set, the Jets were looking to avoid the sweep. The Jets would make the third set close but would ultimately fall short. With the Jets trailing 19-14, Newman would be able to put a little pressure on the Ichabods getting the score to 23-20 before eventually dropping the set 25-21.Â
