Wichita, Kan. – The Newman Jets returned home for a non-conference matchup against Nebraska Christian. Newman would pull away from the Sentinels midway through the first half to coast to a 101-59 victory on Saturday Afternoon.
Despite outscoring the Sentinels in both the first and second half, it was a close game for most of the first half. After a three point basket by
Kalin Johnson took the Jets lead to eight, Newman would go on a 27-14 run in the last 9 minutes of the first half to extend their lead to 21 at the half.
In the second half, Newman kept pouring it on the Sentinels and got to their largest lead of the game with 1:10 left when
Omar Boone made a layup to eclipse the 100 point mark for the second time this season.
Newman shot 38-of-64 from the floor for 59 percent, 10-of-20 from three for 50 percent and 15-of-17 from the free throw line for 88 percent. While Nebraska Christian shot 24-of-59 for 40 percent, and 5-of-15 from 3 for 33 percent. The Jets would out-rebound the Sentinels by 18, 40-22, with 9 coming on the offensive end.
Newman was led in scoring by
Kalin Johnson with a career high, 20 points.
Allen Wilson added 14 of his own to help lead the Jets to victory. The Jets had 6 players score double figures,
Marshawn Blackmon,
Juwan Davenport,
Kaleb Allison and
Jacob Birnbaum all had 10 points each.
Newman (5-5, 0-2) will be back in action Monday, December 16 as they host Sterling College with tip-off starting at 2:00 P.M.
