Wichita, Kan. – The Newman Jets finished non-conference play on Monday afternoon against Sterling College.  Newman would pull away from Warriors late in the first half to coast to a 98-66 victory.
Despite outscoring the Warriors in both the first and second half, it was a close game for the first ten minutes of the first half.  With 7:58 left in the opening period and the game tied at 29, the Jets would outscore the Warriors 17-10 to end the first half and take a 46-39 lead going into the break.
In the second half, Newman started to pour it on the Warriors as they started the quarter on a 22-15 run to build a 14 point lead halfway through the final period. For the next four minutes of play, the Jets would hold the Warriors scoreless while they went on a 16-0 run to take a 82-54 lead. 
Dawson Gunter led the way for the Jets in the run scoring 5 points. The largest Newman lead of the afternoon came with 38 seconds left when Gunter made a 3 point basket to extend the Jets lead to 32, 98-66.
Newman shot 35-of-64 from the floor for 54 percent, 12-of-21 from three for 57 percent and 16-of-19 from the free throw line for 84 percent.  While Sterling shot 27-of-60 for 45 percent, and 5-of-20 from 3 for 25 percent.  The Jets would out-rebound the Warriors by 3, 31-28, with 7 coming on the offensive end.
Newman was led in scoring by 
Kalin Johnson for the second game in a row as he had 18 points. 
Marshawn Blackmon added 17 points of his own. The Jets had 5 players score double figures in the win. 
David Javorsky, in his first game back from injury had 12 points on 4-of-7 shooting. 
Omar Boone and 
Juwan Davenport had 11 points a piece.
Newman (6-5, 0-2) will start MIAA play back up Saturday, December 21 as they host Central Oklahoma starting at 3:30 P.M.
