DALLAS — The No. 9 ranked Newman women's bowling club team saw their season come to an end Sunday (Mar. 10) on the final roll at the Intercollegiate Team Championships Sectional Qualifier. The Jets finished with a strong fifth place finish, however only the top-four teams advanced to the second leg of the collegiate bowling's postseason.
After a sold first day of bowling in the first 32 Baker games, the Jets placed themselves in the quest knocking down 5,998 total pens just 204 pens behind third-place Wichita State and just in-front of fifth place William Penn of 13 pens.
Midway through the final day the Jets continued sitting well right at the cut line leading fifth-place William Penn by 61 total pens heading into the final Baker 16. After bowling a Baker high six 200 point games or better, the Jets looked to be in great position.
In the final set William Pen got hot making up the difference with 3,046 pins in the final block, finishing 71-pins better than the Jets 2,975 pins in the final block.
In the singles qualifier consisting of six games, senior Becca King led the charge smashing down 1,160 total pins for a 26th place.
McKendree took the tournament crown with a score of 12,913, Alabama-Birmingham finished runner up with a total of 12,410 pins, while cross town rival Wichita State bowled to a third place finish of 12,389 and William Penn finished fourth just 10-pins better than Newman with 12,065.
The Jets finished yet another remarkable season with three tournament titles and 11 top-10 performances on the year.
